Drama Troupe
What is the Youth Services Drama Troupe? An exciting and important opportunity for youth, the drama troupe is a touring ensemble of youth who research, write and perform plays addressing youth-specific issues, exploring such topics as dating violence, homeless youth, drug abuse, depression and suicide, among others.
The troupe also provides an opportunity for young thespians to gain theatre training with local professionals in acting methods, scene study, improvisation, mime, technical theatre and more.
Drama Troupe Objectives... To use performance to inform, educate and develop youth and adult audiences, enabling youth to make critical decisions about their actions and behaviors and making adults aware and educated about issues that face today’s youth.
To provide a safe and nurturing outlet in writing and performance for youth to freely express themselves, their concerns, and their opinions and to use this expression for positive development.
To enhance the social and personal development of participants using the inherent social aspects of drama.
To have participants available in their communities and schools as a resource to peers, able to identify issues and problems, educate on an individual basis and make appropriate referrals to Youth Services for help.
To provide theatre arts training and practical theatrical experience to participants.
